Another “sheltering in place” recipe. I was desperate for chocolate (had the ice cream) and remember this recipe from many years ago. I found it a bit sweet, so I added the cocoa powder, but it is great either way.

Ingredients

  • 1 (14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 6 ounces unsweetened chocolate (such as Baker’s)
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • Dash salt

Directions

  1. Heat sweetened condensed milk and chocolate in heavy saucepan over medium-low heat until chocolate is melted, stirring often, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add cocoa powder (if using) and stir until smooth. Remove from heat.
  3. Add butter and stir until melted. Add dash salt and vanilla.
  4. Keep in refrigerator.

Thanks to Ruth’s family for the loan of the lovely antique banana split dish.
